What’s the best pet to have? A dog? Cat? Hamster? Fish? Maybe a ferret? Lots of people in Bourbon County High School have pets that they love and adore. Though the majority of people have dogs, there are many other animals. When asked what kind of dog she has and why, Health teacher, Ms. Garrison answered, “I have two beautiful dogs. I chose them because when I first saw them I knew I wanted them. They were so adorable and fluffy. I also chose them because my daughter said that she wanted a friend and I felt that that was a good choice for her. I thought that because my daughter is young and the dogs are small and nice.” Senior, Elizabeth Boggs, said, “I have two dogs. One of the dogs is my moms and she really loves it. She told me that from the moment she saw her she had to get her. And the other dog is mine and my sisters. It’s one year old and it’s a medium-sized dog. She is very cute and fluffy. It is a Husky breed.”

People wonder why so many of us get animals. It’s very simple actually. According to Animal Freedom: “The animal serves people’s need to cherish, love, and fight boredom. Pets make socializing with others easier. People are more inclined to start a conversation when they can focus their attention on the animal in a moment of silence.” Pets are really good to have and many people suggest getting them. They help fight depression and give someone a friend. They are very comfortable to be around.

As you can see, many people always have dogs. According to Purnia, “Dogs provide us with a sense of emotional wellbeing thanks to the unconditional love they give, which is why they’re also great company and comfort for people who live alone. Owning a dog can help people to recover from personal trauma, such as bereavement.” In conclusion, animals help with a lot of things. They are also super cute!
