On February 23, 2021, rapper Bobby Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Jean Pollard was released from Clinton Correctional Facility.

On December 18, 2014, the rapper was arrested by New York City Police. Shmurda and several other members of GS9 were charged with conspiracy to murder, weapons possession, and reckless endangerment. Later in 2016, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years. It was brought down to five years. After being in prison for over six years, Smurda was finally released. So, what does it mean for Shmurda to be out? While he is finally free, he received a conditional release, which means he will be able to serve out the rest of his sentence, under community supervision. This will end in December. He also received five years of parole.

When being released in February, the hip-hop community and many more were very happy and excited to see him out. On the day Shmurda got out, Quavo went to the correctional facility to give him a welcome home. Shmurda left with Quavo on a private plane and Prada. In an interview with Billboard Quavo said, “I’m going to get my guy. I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir.” On Instagram stories, Chris Brown welcomed Bobby Shmurda home and called him the king of New York. Leslie Pollard, Shmurda’s mom, told TMZ his post-prison plans: he would be coming home to a home-cooked meal and quality time with his family. When the rapper got out he gained 2.3 million Instagram followers in a day. He had 900k followers the day before and went to 3.2 million followers.

As you can see, the release of Bobby Shmurda has been celebrated by many.
