As many women in the United States fear for their safety all around the world, another victim of a murder has been reported. On February 13th, 2022, 35-year-old Christina Yuna Lee, a digital music producer in Manhattan, was reported dead after a homeless man followed her and reportedly stabbed her after returning home from a night out.

Early Sunday morning, Lee was dropped off at her New York apartment building. While going inside, a homeless man followed her inside the building, and she was reportedly unaware that the man had followed her. While entering her building, he slipped inside her apartment and attacked her. Her last words according to witnesses were “Help me! Call 911!” The words were pleas for help from her neighbors, who across the hall heard her scream and immediately called for police and medical aid. When police arrived at the scene, Christina was lying in her bathtub, where she was pronounced dead.

The suspected killer was caught and taken into custody after he tried to flee down the fire escape. 25-year-old Assahmad Nash was arrested on charges of murder and burglary. Problems with Korean abuse have skyrocketed over the years. According to Times.com, the number of Korean hate crimes has increased by 149%. Many Korean activists have protested for this to stop.

“Stop AAPI Hate” was created to invite Asian Americans who have experienced hate crimes of their own to speak up and share their experiences. This group logged 3,795 incidents involving hate crimes towards Asian people from March 19, 2020, to February 28th, 2021. This number was reported to calculate only a fraction of the number of hate crimes that occurred.
