The very first space crafts were made out of giant sheets of metal to form different parts to make a spacecraft. In recent years we have found a way to print the Giant capsules that are needed for a spacecraft. This is through a process of 3D printing, 3D printing is when a machine prints objects by using a filament of some sort which is melted and then placed in layers to make a 3D model or in this case 85% of a spacecraft. The 3D-printed spacecraft was designed by Relativity and manufactured by Long Beach Factory. 85% of this spacecraft is 3D printed; the only components that are not printed are the rubber gaskets, computer chips, and valves. This means that the spaceship is made without producing extra waste that cutting and grinding metal would. This means most of the engine was 3D printed, along with the outer shell and most of the computers.
Leading us to the causes of the aborIs 3D the best way to go for space vessels?
ted rocket launch. One of the causes of the rocket launch aborts was not due to rocket failures, it was due to a boat that drifted into the danger zone of the rocket launch. With that being said two of the rocket launch aborts were due to rocket failures. The first rocket failure was due to the rocket starting up and then abruptly shutting down. The next one was due to the fuel pressure of the second capsule being 1 pound per square inch too low. This was caused by human error and them not filling the rocket up enough. The point that there was another attempt 3 days prior that also ended in failed attempts to launch the rocket. These problems also follow similar patterns that more traditional rockets face when it comes to launching rockets into space, So these aren’t just problems that the 3D-printed rockets are having. So with that being said is 3D printing the rocket causing the problems or is it just the normal difficulties or Spacecraft construction?
