A 14-year-old is dead after he and two other teenagers were hit by a car as they were riding stolen horses. It happened on March 14th at about 5:30 a.m along I-45 and Trinity Forest Way in the East Oak cliff. Two of the three stolen horses are dead as well. The horse owner said that he was watching the news that morning and he knew deep down inside that the horses were his. What he didn’t know is that the person who lost their life was only 14-years-old. The owner mentions, “I didn’t realize he was that young. Yes, they make bad choices, and I’m counting the victims of bad choices.” Lorenza Gooch owned the three horses stolen by the three teenagers that were hit, a 14-year-old died, Gooch lost two of his three horses. The East Oak Cliff interchange was shut down for hours. A witness said, “They had everything blocked off, they let us in because we were in the corner and that is when we saw the horses and the one guy in the street.” Police first reported that it was a hit and run, but the driver did stay on the scene and was not charged. It appears that the teens were riding in saddles, but Gooch said the saddles were not his. Gooch races his horses on the pro circuit. “They have never been ridden because they are Standardbred horses in which they pull a small cart called a sulky, Gooch said.” He also mentions that this was the first time that horses have been stolen from him and that with this that happened, he thinks he’s done with horses. There are enough obstacles in trying to race a horse and enjoy the sport and have your horses stolen and lose them this way and be concerned about people abusing them after they steal them. There was also a 16 and a 17 year old on those stolen horses, Dallas police said that they were taken to a local hospital and not much else has been said about their conditions.
