On May 23, 2023, The life of Sarah Kempinska was left forever altered. Sarah Keminska was diagnosed with Granulomatosis with polyangiitis, which is an autoimmune condition. This condition can cause breathing problems along with lung or liver failure. It is a condition that currently has no cure. On May 23, 2023, Sarah experienced shortness of breath sending her to the ER. Sarah was put into a medically induced coma soon after admission.
Sarah had been planning her wedding with her fiance, Jim Kelly for the past two years. They set their wedding date for June 3, 2023. Sarah fell into a coma less than two weeks before her wedding was set to happen.
Every detail of her wedding was planned and laid out in spreadsheets. It was left up to her fiance, Jim, to decide whether or not the wedding would be called off. Jim was able to access all the wedding details using Sarah’s phone. Even though Jim was unsure if they would make it down the aisle, he kept the date scheduled for the 3rd of June. Sarah’s nurses did their part by keeping Sarah’s hair washed and braided to avoid any matting. “The nursing staff were amazing at helping me through that” (Sarah Kempinska).
By what some may call a miracle Sarah woke up out of her Coma just 4 days before her wedding. Sarah, even though awake, was exhausted and very weak; Sarah and her fiancé grew worried they may have to push the date anyway. “But ultimately, I just remember looking at Jim and saying, ‘I just want to be married to you.’” (Sarah Kempinska). Sarah was released from the hospital on May 30 2023 and was able to walk down the aisle and even dance at her wedding on June 3rd, 2023. Sarah has told reporters she is “happily married and feeling very good.” Sarah has described this event as being somewhat of a miracle.
