On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, in Winchester, Kentucky, a 17-year-old high school student got on the bus that evening and hospitalized a 12-year-old middle school student. News apps and websites say it was because of a bus seat. The girl was trying to get the boy to move so that her friend could sit there; the boy decided to stand up for himself and not move because he was their first. She responded violently after the girl told him to move, and he would not. She beat his head off and continuously punched him with her fist. Everyone else on the bus was recording, but one girl got up and pulled her off of the boy. When police arrived, They got the girl off the bus and handcuffed her.
The boy had been beaten so severely that he had to get eight staples in the head and had a busted mouth, not including the bruising on his arms from trying to block the punches. The 17-year-old high school student was sent to a Juvenile Detention Center because the parents of the 12-year-old boy pressed charges and said, “Give her the full extent that she can get because there was no reason for this.” She was going to a Juvenile Detention Center until she turned 18, and then she would be tried as an adult. The school CPS is taking more precautions due to this incident and said, “We will not tolerate this kind of violence.” Kids should not have to go to school in unsafe environments. Why do you think older kids hurt their younger peers, whom they are supposed to be role models? Why do you think kids want to hurt their peers? Why might you believe that? What might be a way for schools to prevent things in the long run? No matter how many things people bother you with, violence is not the key; don’t let someone turn you into a bully.
