The Bourbon County High School Bowling team has been outstanding. In January this year, the boys and girls team went to regionals at Louisville Executive Strike and Spare. Unfortunately, the girls did not win; but on the bright side, the boys won and went to state. The boys attended state at Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown in February of this year but did not win. The Bourbon County Citizen local newspaper interviewed Katie Scenters (who graduated last year) about her time on the Bourbon County High School bowling team. Scenters stated, “Being on the bowling team at Bourbon was truly the best. The people were great and pretty much a family. I got into bowling when my dad started in a league, and it looked like so much fun, so I wanted to try it out,”. The newspaper also interviewed Cole Knore who said ” I got into bowling because my friend (Logan) told me about it and I joined for fun. Later on, I found out that I really enjoyed it and continued bowling,”.
I interviewed two members of the girls’ bowling team. One of the girls, Alexis Amant, told me, “I really like being on the team because the coaches (David Hooper and Johnny Yazell) and the environment are just really great,”. Amant also said, “My friends somehow convinced me to join the team so I did. I think the team could do amazing things this year,”. The other member, Heather Yocum said, “I honestly joined the team because I promised David (one of the coaches) that I would try, but I really did enjoy it and that’s why I came back. I like being on the team because of the people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made. I hope the team does well this year, it depends on us,”.
I am on the bowling team and I absolutely love it. If you are ever bored and you want to do something outside of school, I recommend joining the bowling team. It’s such a fun experience and the memories last a lifetime. The coaches (David Hooper and Johnny Yazell) and team are amazing and the environment is great. You’ll make new friends and have an enjoyable experience- I know I did. As of last year, there were only 19 people on the bowling team, 8 on the girls team and 11 on the boys team. We could always use new people for the team. Help us become the greatest team ever.
