An exciting event happened within the heart of Bourbon County. Bourbon County Preschool Head Start students began their first day of school with welcoming arms from their new teachers and staff. Preschool will prepare them for Kindergarten, while offering a memorable experience as they have the opportunity to learn with classmates for the first time. Gina Bach said, “Bourbon County Preschool Head Start was excited to welcome their new students and families on Open House night and on their first day of school! Open House gave families the opportunity to see their classrooms, meet preschool staff and bus drivers, pick out books for home and even receive free haircuts and pedicures for the little ones. There were many who were also happy to see old friends!” She then quoted Fred Donaldson and said, “Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”
Not only did the Preschool Head Start have their open house, but the children from North Middletown Elementary earned “Star Student Awards.” The children earned them through many acts, such as being amazing, being a rock star, and having a great attitude. These students received their rewards, called to the gym, and then were asked to pose next to the teacher that rewarded them. With a big smile they took a picture. The teachers were very proud of the students for doing their best on the first week of school and gladly expressed that by making them their star students. Go North Middletown Elementary!
On top of all of that, our fellow colonels: Harrison Steen, Peyton Thornberry, and James Barney earned their very own awards at Bourbon County Middle School. Their awards are different from those at North Middletown. The children have the chance to earn the Colonel Spirit Award, which is presented to students for good attitude, good attendance and good academics or the chance to earn the Colonel Has Class Award, which is presented to students that embody class by having good character, good citizenship and Concern for others. Harrison Steen (sixth grade) earned the Colonel Spirit Award, while Peyton Thornberry (eighth grade) and James Barney (sixth grade) earned the Colonel Has Class Award. Congratulations to those three Stars, keep up the good work!
