On September 1, 2023, a Colorado climber was found dead in Montana National Park. The body of Adam Fuselier, 32 years old, was found at 11 A.M. Adam Fuselier was reported missing on Wednesday when his family had not heard from him. Officials started a search that same day but were cut short due to rainy, foggy, and windy conditions. The search continued on Thursday, Two Bear Air Rescue joined the search. On Friday the United States Forest Service deployed a helicopter. By Friday, more than 50 searchers, a dog team, and two helicopters were involved in the search.
Montana National Park has more than 745 miles of trail which is full of melting glaciers, valleys, and lakes. It covers over 1,500 square miles and 175 mountains. So far this year, a 28-year-old woman from Kansas died in May after falling off a rocky overhang into Avalanche Creek at the park and was swept into a gorge. Last year, three people died in one week at the park, and just last year they had seven deaths at the park.
Adam Fuselier’s vehicle was found at Logan Pass on Wednesday. Park rangers noted that the space is among the highest elevation points which is accessible by vehicle.”The park and Fuselier’s family would like to thank visitors for calls to the tip line that directly contributed to finding Fuselier’s remains,” park officials added. “Credible tips from hikers who had contact with Fuselier helped narrow the search area.”
Fuselier’s body was transported from Reynolds Mountain to West Glacier by a US Forest Service helicopter based out of the Hungry Horse Ranger District. Glacier National Park officials and Fuselier’s family thanked the following agencies for their assistance: North Valley Search and Rescue, Flathead County Search and Rescue, US Forest Service, Flathead County Sheriff’s Department, Two Bear Air Rescue, NPS staff and members of the public who provided tips. Officials don’t know the cause of death, and indeed, foul play has not been ruled out yet.
