Football player Devontez Walker is a two-year receiver veteran for Kent St. Walker had originally enrolled at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) but he never played a game due to the cancellation of the 2020 season. After everything had transpired over to Kent State University, he played in 2021 and 2022, before transferring to UNC. He appeared in 20 games making 12 starts. During his time as a Golden Flash, Donvontez “Tez” Walker is now eligible to play, following new information the school had “failed to provide” according to the NCAA announced. The NCAA finally granted him eligibility to play at UNC 10 days ago. Walker had originally been ineligible to play due to the fact that he was considered a two-time transfer. His transfer request waiver was repeatedly denied due to the fact Walker had transferred to Chapel Hill after spending previous months at Kent State University. Walker helped the practice on the scout team to help the Tar Heels prepare. “It is unfortunate that UNC failed to provide important information previously,” NCAA president Charlie Baker and Georgia president Jere Morehead, and DIvision 1 Board of Directors Chair, said in a statement. They do not compromise the students-athletes’ privacy. “Walker had more than 48 hours to get up to speed on UNC’s game plan ahead of Synracuse last weekend. But playing against the Hurricanes, Walker had worked through a full week to get immersed in the game.” At the 18-yard line, quarterback Drake Maye found Walker in the end zone on a skinny post, delivering the transfer’s receiver’s first touchdown as a Tar Heel. It wasn’t clear why the NCAA delayed the making of the correct decision. After Walker missed the first four games because he was ruled ineligible to play, he was, “excited and thankful” that the decision has been reversed. Walker will remain a Tar Heel for the next few years.
