Being a public servant means that you work for the public, and unfortunately, usually with lower pay than many other professions. People who are public servants typically exude characteristics of integrity, compassion, and commitment. Regina Huffman, a firefighter and resident in Leslie County, Kentucky died in a crash while responding to an emergency call. According to the officers, on Sunday evening, October 29th at ten o’clock the fire department responded to an ATV accident involving two people who were seriously injured. A helicopter rushed to the scene so they could transport the two people to the nearest hospital. Regina Huffman was riding on the left on the scene to go to the landing zone and the vehicle slipped off the roadway and struck a house. The firefighter that was injured was firefighter Huffman and another firefighter, her oldest son. According to officials, firefighter Huffman later died from her injuries; she was 39 years old leaving her fiance and six children. Huffman is remembered as a generous public servant. “She didn’t care if she knew you or didn’t know you or know your situation. You needed help, she would help you. Didn’t ask no questions, didn’t ask for nothing in return,” said her friend and fellow volunteer, Ethel Turner. This testament showcases just how much Regina Huffman will be missed in her community among both family and friends. Huffman was a firefighter and a public servant in Leslie County, Kentucky where she faced danger every day, but did so with integrity, compassion, and commitment. Huffman’s son had injuries but ended up being okay. Across the state of Kentucky, flags were lowered to half-staff to show respect and admiration for a public servant killed while on duty.
