Schools all around the world are celebrating with funny outfits, kind notes, spirit days and many more. Why? Because Monday, November 13th was World Kindness Day. A day, or a whole week, to celebrate kindness shown in the community and show kindness in everyday life.
World Kindness Day began in 1989 and was started by the World Kindness Movement. The day was created “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.” said the World Kindness movement. After some countries had their first World Kindness Day in 1989 many countries joined. On November 13th, 1989 Singapore, India, and Italy celebrated the day for the first time.
Schools all over the world are celebrating World Kindness Week by gifting cards, recording songs, and showing their appreciation for their teachers and friends. At Bourbon County High School this week, we wrote appreciation notes, dressed up as Mr. Rogers, and wore yellow, or a cardigan on Monday. On Tuesday, it was superhero day. Wednesday was wear a hat; Thursday was pajama day; and Friday was dress in Bourbon attire.
Schools are not the only ones celebrating; many companies have also joined in. At limited locations, Krispy Kreme gave out free donuts to the first 500 customers. In addition, Tiff’s Treats started a nationwide kindness chain by giving some lucky customers half a dozen cookies. With that, the customers were supposed to give them to others and would also receive some for themselves.
World Kindness Day is an important day to celebrate because you get to recount a day of just being nice and kind to everyone who means the most to you. Sometimes it’s nice to think about all that you have and all that you could give to others just by being kind. Every time you give someone a compliment or help someone out, you change the world by being kind too.
