Pope Francis is having trouble breathing as a result of a lung inflammation that forced him to cancel his scheduled address at the U.N. climate conference in Dubai and to delegate the reading of his weekly catechesis lesson and other remarks to aides Wednesday. This is a very important problem for the pope because of his old age. 1957: In his native Argentina, Francis, then in his early 20s, suffers from a severe respiratory infection that forces doctors to remove part of one lung. Francis, the first pope from the Americas, turns 87 next month and has battled ill health for years, canceling multiple engagements and appearing in public in a wheelchair. But Bruni’s statement stressed: “The Pope’s condition is good and stationary, he has no fever and his respiratory situation is improving.”
With the pope being in the current state he is in, Rev. Paolo Braida, stepped in and read the pope’s normal Sunday message. Although the pope was present in the reading of the message, he was short of breath and coughed at one point, appearing to be in poor condition..”Dear brothers and sisters. Happy Sunday. Today, I cannot appear at the window because I have this problem of inflammation in the lungs,” Francis said in the statement during the weekly address.
The health condition of the pope is climbing for the better. Spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement that a CT scan at a Rome hospital on Saturday 11,26,2023 excluded pneumonia but had detected inflammation in the pope’s lungs which is the reason behind the breathing difficulties. “The pope’s condition is good and stable, he does not have a fever and his respiratory condition is decidedly improving,” Bruni said. “To facilitate the pope’s recovery, some important engagements that were scheduled for these days have been postponed so that he can dedicate his time and energy (to recovery)”.
