On Monday there was a stabbing at a school in North Carolina that left one student hospitalized and another dead. A fight broke out in the gym in the morning at Southeast Raleigh High School, with the whole incident being caught on video. The fourteen-year-old suspect is in custody, although it was not clear if the youth attended the school Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said. The name of the fifteen-year-old who passed away hasn’t been released. There was another sixteen-year-old student who stayed in the hospital due to injuries that weren’t life-threatening. Currently, Raleigh police said that officers and detectives are working with Wake County Public School Officials to investigate the stabbing. The young man accused of the stabbing of his peers has been charged with murder on a juvenile petition. Several weeks prior to the fight that led to the stabbing, the mother of the fourteen-year-old warned a school official on Monday believing that her son might be attacked. The altercation at Southeast Raleigh High School that led to the fatal stabbing already had some history prior to the stabbing. Cherelle McLaughlin of Raleigh stated that a disagreement between students began with her older daughter; She had already been in a fight with another student that grew into an even bigger situation involving multiple juveniles McLaughlin stated her daughter’s original fight led to multiple juveniles including those shown in the videos of Monday’s fight coming to her house around a week ago and assaulting both McLaughlin and her mother. On Monday when she had brought her son to school McLaughlin said she told his case worker that he would likely get jumped for defending his sister. It was stated by McLaughlin that she had only a three-minute call on Monday to talk to her son who currently remains in custody “He was scared to death,” she said.
