Frank Reich is a former American football head coach and former quarterback player. He served as the head coach for the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. Reich played college football at Maryland and was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 1985 NFL draft. Reich was the first ever-starting quarterback in their inaugural season according to WCNC. He recently just got fired as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. Reich was fired due to the shortcomings of the Carolina Panthers offense.
The Carolina Panthers owner, David Tepper fired the head coach on Monday, November 27 after a 1-10 start season of 2023 season according to the NFL. Reich had been fired after only 11 games. The NFL Network Insiders, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero had been informed of the situation.
His firing in Carolina marked the second year in a row he had been fired from head coaching. “Reich’s tenure at the Carolina’s ended with an NFL worst 1-10 record” according to ESPN. Reich had told the observer that his journey with coaching wasn’t over, but he had added that “this is probably the final chapter of my NFL journey.” The Panthers had also fired the assistant head coach. According to the ESPN stats and information of the research, there had only been six NFL head coaches since the merger since no one finished their first season with their teams- with three of those instances having come in the last three seasons. Reich had become the first head coach since the 1970 merger to be fired in back-to-back seasons in the NFL after last year’s dismissal from the Indianapolis Colts. “This issue was enough for Tepper to move on from Reich after just 11 games” according to the NFL. Reich is the first NFL head coach to be fired in back to back seasons since 1970.
