Jelly Roll kicked off the night by performing “Halfway to Hell”, “Wild Ones”, and “Need a Favor”, with Jessie Murph as confetti fell. However, right before the new year, the icon LL Cool J performed alongside DJ Z-Trip. Cardi B and Offset will also be performing in Miami close to midnight with the New Year’s Eve show.
The show brings in a lot of money, with Ryan Secrest, the host getting $1 million for simply hosting the event. It is said that over 29.3 million people watched The New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, which is the most viewed entertainment program in primetime.
The new year’s Rockin ‘Eve began being televised in the 50s; however, it changed in the 70s with host Dick Clark. He brought in some of the biggest and best performers for the celebrations. The first-ever special aired on December 31, 1972. Clark stopped hosting in 2004 when he had an unexpected stroke. After the stroke of the beloved host, Ryan Seacrest took over and has continued to host every year since. Sadly Dick Clark passed away in 2012 due to an unexpected heart attack. Clarck’s legacy continues to shine with his name being forever attached to “The New Year’s Rockin’ Eve”.
