On Sunday, January 14, 2024, there was a huge snowstorm that hit the U.S. The temperatures dropped down to nearly zero in Kentucky and other parts of the U.S., but in some other parts of Kentucky and parts of the U.S., it was down in the negatives. Many people were affected by this huge snowstorm, schools were closed, small businesses and other companies closed, as well as other workplaces. Millions of people’s lives were put on hold. In some parts of Kentucky and other parts of the U.S., there were dozens of people killed. The roads were slick and as fast as the snow plows would clear the road they would be right back covered up. News people were encouraging people to stay indoors and not to go out unless it was an emergency. People’s water pipes were freezing and some even busted due to the cold weather. In Oregon, there were about 170,000 companies/businesses without power. The winter storm brought an immense amount of chaos to the U.S. This storm caused a water shortage in the Paris-Bourbon County area. Not only that but the high winds in the mix of the snow caused snow to fly off rooftops, buildings, and cars not only that but the ground too. The winds were 50 mph and up. Kind people from local businesses and communities were handing out blankets and other items to help people out during this winter storm. There were reports about oil spills and other environmental incidents in North Dakota’s Bakken oil fields. After all of the snow in Bourbon County melted away there was a downpour that flooded fields and little back roads. It’s not extreme and did not flood to an extreme but flooded enough to have water over/on the roads. Kentucky by itself has not experienced a snowstorm like this in many years.

Hello, my name is Breanna and I am 15 years old! I am in Journalism ll for the year of 2023-2024. I live on a farm and love being around animals especially my baby bottle calf, Star. I like watching movies and series, especially horror ones. I have two sisters named Hannah and Brooklin and a half-brother named Aaron. I like dogs, especially pugs; I’m a very quiet and shy person, who rarely talks to new people. I love being around babies because they are so adorable. Finally, I want to become a NICU nurse so that I could help babies and be around them.
