Everyone’s childhood favorite show, “The Wizards of Waverly Place” is having a reboot. The show originally came out on October 12, 2007, which was conveniently the same day that the famous twins Tia and Tamera Mowry’ movie Twitches was released. Two witches with one stone! Get it? Because it’s a show and movie about witches. Moving on, the sequel is titled “Wizards” and Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who played Alex and Justin (the eldest of the Russo siblings) will be executive producers of the pilot. Disney Branded Television confirmed the news to CBS News. Gomez is set to appear in the pilot as a guest star while Henrie will appear as Justin like the original. The cast will also include new arrivals at Waverly Place, like Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos who will be cast as Justin Russo’s two sons. The pilot episode is written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who were behind the reboot of “That’s So Raven.” The sequel enters the story of Justin, who leaves his job at WizTech and his magic powers behind to live a normal life with his family until a powerful young wizard shows up at his door looking for training which leaves Justin to embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World. For years, both Gomez and Henrie have teased a possible on-screen reunion. “I’ve talked to some people. Talked to some people who are decision-makers, to my sis Selena and I have to be very tactful with my response here because I’ll say there’s a lot of goodwill. I don’t think anyone’s opposed to the idea, but I think it’s a matter of time,” Henrie teased in a YouTube video in July 2020, about a reboot, noting that “there will be a reunion one day.” Finally, the time has come.
