On February 18, at the people’s choice awards (PCA) Billie Eilish seemed to overshare a dislike she had about all of the Tiktokers that attended. She openly expressed her confusion on why a bunch of social media “stars” were among real A-Listers. Eilish was filmed chatting with Kylie Minogue at the award show in L.A. and was heard and filmed pointing out her concern about all of the social media influencers. Once Eilish was aware that she was being filmed she tried to cover up her disgust, but was unsuccessful. There really weren’t a lot of social media stars on hand at the show and they did seem to be more filled with actual mainstream actors and musicians than viral influencers. But, among those who have a huge following; Tana Mongeau, Chris Olsen, Gigi Gorgeous, Alix Earle, James Charles and maybe a couple more here and there. The “Ocean Eyes” singer could be heard saying to Kylie on the viral video that has gone around, “I’m like, there’s some Tiktokers here.” Just as Eilish said the word ‘Tiktokers,’ she covered the side of her face as an attempt to avoid being caught gossiping before she gestured to something behind her. Fans interpreted her comments as disapproving of the TikTokers, with many agreeing with her seeming objection to their presence; “Billie shading the plague of the internet makes me like her even more,” one posted. As an oscar and grammy award winner Eilish was probably thinking, “what am I doing here in a room with these people.” Everyone is torn between relating with her and disagreeing with her. None of the tiktokers to knowledge have won any grammys or oscars for acting or a song, so how she is feeling is understandable. Some viral tweets from people that relate with her say, “An oscar winner shouldn’t be in the same room as tiktokers!” and, “and she’s right, why are they inviting these tiktokers everywhere?” One person that disagreed with Eilish was also attending the PCA and he had something to say in a tiktok video that went viral. Bryce Hall addressed Eilish’s comments about the ticktokers attending the PCA and said, “First off, Billie Eilish I am so sorry that I didn’t acknowledge your greatness and bow down to you for being another human being.” Bryce then proceeded to add, “People’s Choice invited us personally. Everyone that attended People’s Choice and were sitting at those tables were invited by People’s Choice. So, hate on them.” Bryce then begins to finish of the video by announcing that it was sad as he wipes away an alleged tear and says, “The most sad thing is that I was a Billie Eilish stan, I stanned you Billie Eilish and now I don’t think I can renegade to any of your songs again, so thanks for taking out all of my content.” Despite how anyone feels about the situation, think from the awards show perspective. They invited the tiktokers because they ultimately wanted more attention and buzz online. A lot of the tiktokers have a younger audience which might not even be aware of any of the award shows, or any of the A-list celebrities and may only know the tiktokers from their fame on the app. Therefore tiktokers may continue to be invited to these award shows to make the younger generations aware of the bigger fish.
