The majority of people would love to go to Paris, France to see the beautiful Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is the distinct tourist attraction of the city of Paris. Now, the Eiffel Tower is on strike. The Eiffel Tower went on strike due to employees demanding an increase in salaries that should be proportionate to the incoming revenue from the ticket sales. The poor financial management had turned away visitors. The 1,083ft landmark is in central Paris and has seen soaring sightseer numbers leading up to the Olympics in the French capital. Tourists were warned on the monument’s website that it was “currently closed” due to the strike of its employees. Visitors were even told to check the website before heading to the monument. The visits could be disrupted “due to a renewable strike notice” according to AP news. The electronic ticket owners were told to check their inboxes beforehand. Tourists were very upset. A visitor from Argentina had stated “So It’s closed. A trip of thousands of kilometers and for nothing!” The operator of the Eiffel Tower refused to answer any questions or take up any responses. One of the Union officials, Dennis Vavassori of the CGT which represents a large number of the Eiffel Tower’s employees, said its members voted unanimously to continue the strike. He said “Employees were willing to persist until their demands were met but hoped to reach an agreement with the Paris municipality, the monument’s owner, before the start of the Summer Games.” according to AP News. The strike could go on for days or even weeks according to Vavassori. According to ABC news a street vendor packing up his miniature towers and keychains said he is expecting to lose about 400 euros or about $431 if the tower does remain closed. It has been the second time in 2 months that the landmark has been shut down. If this continues, more may come of it.
