On Sunday 18th, at 8:00 pm, the 49th annual 2024 People’s Choice Awards event was held. The People’s Choice Awards is an American awards show, where viewers, fans, and the general public vote on which celebrity receives an award for their category.
This year’s People’s Choice Awards was hosted by Simu Liu, a Canadian actor known for playing Shang-Chi in the 2021 Marvel movie: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The awards show expanded to 45 categories, adding Male country artists, Female Country artists, Male Latin artists, Female Latin artists, and a concert tour. It is said that over 3.3 Million people tuned in to watch this year’s award show, reported to be down by 3.67 million from last year.
Many awards were given out, here are some of the top category winners. The hit movie, Barbie, Made by Greta Gerwig won Movie of the Year. The longest-running medical TV- drama won the award for show of the year. Taylor Swift won the Female Artist of the Year after her Year of new announcements of the Era’s tour, Speak Now (Taylor’s version), and 1989(Taylor’s version). The male artist of the year was Jung Hook, a former member of the band BTS who split up in 2022 to work on their personal career. This year his first solo album, Golden was released on November 3, 2023. The athlete of the year was three-time Super Bowl winner, Travis Kelce.
You can’t have a celebrity red carpet without drama. This year Billie Elish stirred up drama on social media when she was filmed saying “There’s some, like, TikTokers here,” while pointing and whispering. Thousands of people clapped back at her online, some sticking up for the Tiktokers while others agreed with Billie.
This year’s People’s Choice Awards brought Drama, new Awards, and many new looks. I wonder what will come next year?
