Jojo Siwa is a child star who has grown up in the light. It cannot be easy acting, dancing, and performing for children while you are growing up and maturing. However, this is unlike anything we have ever seen before.
The beloved Nickelodeon pop star and former dancer on the hit show Dance Moms had begun to tease her remarkable “rebrand” on March 5th, exactly a month before the release of her new unique song “Karma”. Jojo had posted a series of photos from behind the scenes of her music video. The captions would say things like “karma” and “one more month” and then that is when the news came of her different change. Soon after the notice of the new song, another was posted stating, “The following content is not made for children and may be disturbing or offensive to some viewers,” No one knew what to expect from that sudden warning until she posted again. “It may contain sexual themes, violence, strong language, traumatic scenarios, and flashing lights”. Much feedback and press were released shortly after with many different opinions on her sudden change.
On April 5th, her music video and song were released. Thousands of hateful comments, articles, and interviews were all said about the song, and the actions of the music video. Throughout all social media websites, there were millions of videos mocking the star. With the hate she also had many people believing it was all a PR stunt to get her refreshed in the lights again. In response to the hate Jojo stated “But at the end of the day, I made the art that I wanted to, and I’m so happy, so proud, so excited to bring this version of pop music back.”
Will Jojo continue to create controversial music, or is this all a PR stunt to get her back in the light? No one will know, but at the end of the day, the drama comes and goes and next week it will be something new.
