Hidden Rose farm, one of the many that got hit by the tornado, is now beginning the process of reestablishing what they once had. The EF-1 tornado caused mass destruction on the property and in surrounding areas. The tornado touched down on April 2, 2024. The tornado contained winds up to 95 miles per hour, it was south of Paris in Bourbon County, near the Clark County line headed towards Winchester. The devastation brought thousands of dollars in damages. Owners looked to the community for help. Many volunteers showed up after the storms were over. Chelsea Sherman co-owns the farm with her fiance, Josh Jones. Sherman stated “After the storm hit, her farm was full of volunteers leading a helping hand. Many volunteers returned Wednesday to continue the cleanup efforts. For Sherman and her fiance the farm is their livelihood. “Everything you build and work for and have created is just gone in a matter of seconds, it happened so fast. It was here one second, and you turn around and it’s all gone the next.” Stated Sherman. Jones and his fiance, Chelsea were in one of the barns when the tornado hit. Damage occurred in several areas, with the building being destroyed. The most intense damage was feet away from where they were located.
The volunteers, many of them strangers, helped rebuild barns, clear debris and brought tools, food and other supplies Wednesday to the cleanup crew. Many surrounding farms and businesses came together to help rebuild what was lost. Grace Conley has boarded and rode her horse at the farm since last July. She stated that “It’s devastating to see the training arena leveled to a pile of rubble. I was blown away by the support fellow horse enthusiasts and owners are showing the family.” There were five horses injured during the tornado, four were treated at the farm and the one was taken into immediate surgery. A GoFundMe was arranged to help offset the cost to rebuild. It has raised nearly $50,000 in fewer than two days.
