On May second many NFL and Hollywood stars alike all gathered together in a packed out KIA forum, former home of the Los Angeles Lakers, in order to all listen into the roast of Tom Brady. Netflix announced this exclusive event which was kindly named the Greatest Roast of All Time (GROAT). The event’s name was in reference to a title that seems to be universally given to Brady, the greatest of all time. The entire event lasted over three hours, the audience watched on as stars such as Kevin Hart and Ben Affleck and former greats such as Randy Moss and Peyton Manning walked up on stage and took turns flinging their best insults at Brady.
The night started out with comedian Kevin Hart coming out to start the show, he immediately set the tone for the night as he hurled jokes at some of the stars in the audience including Tom Brady’s former wife Gisele Bündchen. Hart then commenced the show by introducing known “roaster” Jeff Ross who came out fully decked out in an Oj Simpson costume, which could have been seen as disrespectful due to the former NFL stars passing on April 10th of this year. The comedian then went on to make a joke about the suicide of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, this left a very bad vibe in the room for the rest of his performance. Even Tom Brady had enough of Ross’s jokes when he started to make fun of Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Brady walked up and whispered in the comedian’s ear telling him not to make a joke like that again.
After the incidents with Ross the rest of the night went off without a hitch, it was fun to watch as NFL stars and well known actors and comedians came onto the stage and gave their best attempts to crack a joke on the behalf of the former quarterback. There were a lot of jokes made involving the infamous “DeflateGate” case in which Tom Brady was accused of deflating the footballs used in games in order to gain a competitive advantage over his opponents. Even Brady himself made a joke about it saying “The NFL spent $20 million and found it was more “probable” than not that I was “generally” aware that someone may have deflated my footballs. You could have just given me the $20 million and I would just told you I f***ing did it!” The crowd erupted at Brady’s joke at his own expense, with this joke, however, Brady basically confirmed that he will be permanently retired due to the fact that he admitted to breaking a very important NFL rule.
While NFL fans sit around and wait for new actual NFL news to come out, it’s a nice refresher to see a mostly lighthearted joke fest centered around one of the league’s most known players.
