Cane Ridge and North Middletown host all kinds of events throughout the school year. In April Cane Ridge Elementary had a spring family night. On April 24, 2024. With over 300 attendees, it was a fun and successful night. The spring family night had dinner, books, prizes, and learning took place “under the sea.” Family night at school plays an important role in the children’s lives as they watch their parents play important roles in their school. They get to observe their parents interacting with teachers as equals, setting agendas, solving problems, and becoming leaders. Perhaps most importantly, this is a family event, a fun and relaxing evening out. After-school activities allow students to explore their interests and bond with classmates. At Cane Ridge Elementary “Girls on the Run” is an after-school empowering and educational program. The past weekend the club participated in a 5k event at the University of Kentucky. 5th grader Dani Shoen placed 2nd in her age group. North Middletown Elementary had the chance to have an entrepreneur fair. 5th graders got to come up with their business ideas and see if their choice of business was successful or not. The entrepreneur fair enables them to apply basic economic concepts while making a small profit. Students have the opportunity to view their interests, skills, and resources. With these events happening at our elementary schools, students get to express who they are and get to explore new interests. With students having the opportunity to explore interest they will be more likely to engage with the learning process. We shouldn’t assume that just because students excel at a particular subject in school or sports. This is their passion. It is a way for them to explore what they like and don’t like.
