Are you a fan of Marvel’s thrilling and action-filled movie productions? If so, you are in store for the top film of summer 2024; Deadpool and Wolverine, directed by Shawn Levy, returning with the one and only Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, making an unexpected yet iconic duo. This movie marks Disney’s first superhero production since they acquired 20th-century Fox in 2019 and some say It lives up to being the most R-rated film of all time, a remarkable achievement. I watched the movie recently and agree with the statements myself, Deadpool and Wolverine is the most vulgar, yet exhilarating and hilarious movie I’ve seen in a long time. How will future Marvel films ever compare?
The movie features Reynolds as we know him, our hilarious yet deadly Deadpool, and the return of Jackman’s Wolverine. Deadpool is set on a quest to save the universe, specifically, HIS universe. Unfortunately, he requires the help of Wolverine but the one in his world has been defeated long ago. So, the crime-fighting devil has to travel to many alternate multiverses hoping to find a Wolverine he can bring back to his timeline to save it from an existential crisis. The two suit up and while they are first at each other’s throats, they learn they have more in common than what meets the eye and that the only way they can save each other and their universe is by teaming up together.
Moreover, the depth of these characters Is what people are even more interested in. Deadpool is a fictional character published by Marvel comic books, as is Wolverine. Deadpool Is the alter ego of Wade Wilson, a disfigured Canadian with superhuman regeneration. The antihero is known for speaking directly to readers/watchers, known as breaking the fourth wall, and being incredibly humorous. Ryan Reynolds portrays the unserious and goofy side of his character extraordinarily well and has been known as the only face of Deadpool. Hugh Jackman is also known for being the face of his character, Wolverine (James “Logan” Howlett). He is a superhero and a mutant with animal-like senses, and has a knife or claw-like retractable objects inside of his hands, working as his weapon. This character has regenerative abilities as well and Is always serious or angry – unlike his new teammate.
Furthermore, the factors that bring this movie together are the intentional bromance between Reynolds and Jackman, the inappropriate yet witty comedy, and connections to previous movies. Fans eat up the mixture of these different elements, as it makes great entertainment and is the perfect film to go enjoy and laugh with friends. Something else that has brought fans of the film together is the depiction of the multiverse and allowing viewers to witness the many different versions of the characters; from comic books to past movies or shows. It allows us to use our imagination and think about all the different possibilities with just one single character and makes us think about each version in its own universe. Lastly, Deadpool and Wolverine are known for their vast amount of cameos which encourages a warm, nostalgic feeling inside of viewers.
Overall, as a huge fan with high expectations for films featuring Deadpool, I can safely say that this fantastic film will not disappoint on your movie night. I was invested the entire time and was thinking about the movie even weeks after I watched it for the first time, like many others. Deadpool and Wolverine have a 10/10 rating from me for sure, and if you haven’t seen it yet, go find out for yourself why the film deserves a perfect rating next time you go to the cinema with your friends.
