In the past few days, internet sensation, Nikocado Avocado has announced a major change in his life: him losing weight. In an article written by Angela Yang at NBC News, she says how Nikocado Avocado, whose real name is Nicholas Perry, who is most known for his over-the-top mukbang videos, lost close to 250 pounds and hid it from his entire fan-base. In his last video, Perry said “Today I woke up from a very long dream, and I also woke up having lost 250 pounds off my body. And just yesterday, people were calling me fat and sick and boring and irrelevant.” He also said “People are the most messed-up creatures on the entire planet, and yet I’ve still managed to stay two steps ahead of everyone. The joke’s on you.” In the same article, Yang says that Perry sent an email and in the email, he said that it took about two years to lose the weight. From 411 pounds to 156 pounds, Perry said “I have been strategically posting pre-recorded videos for 2 years, on both YouTube and TikTok. I edited the videos so that they would appear recent, allowing me to focus on healing my body behind the scenes.”
Another article, written by Isabel Keane at The New York Post, has another quote from Perry saying: “I am the villain because I’ve made myself one. And you will continue to consume these stories about me. Year after year, after year, for as long as I tell the internet that I am the villain. Stories that permeate and linger, and infect the minds of ants. Influence the ants. Brainwash the ants.” Before ending this quote, he said to his viewers, “You are the ants.” However, staying true to his roots, he wasted no time pulling out a large plate of noodles to later consume.
In one last article, written by Bruce Y. Lee at Forbes Magazine, he writes about how Perry fooled not only his entire platform into thinking that he was still engaging in an unhealthy relationship with food, but he fooled us into thinking that when we saw him posting his videos, we thought it would be him at the time of his posting. Another thing that the video “Two Steps Ahead” covers is a major ongoing problem, fat shaming. The article also explains how the stigma behind weight gain and how it is solely because of the lack of control, over-consumption of foods, and moving around too little just aren’t true. Such stigma blames those who are struggling with overweight conditions or obesity. In reality, however, many people with these conditions try their best to regulate what goes into their bodies. It isn’t just someone being lazy or overeating that can cause someone to weigh more than the next. It can be caused by other factors such as genetics, physiologies, social settings and situations, economic conditions, mental illness and many other reasons.
At the end of the day, you never know what someone is going through, may it be their home life or mental conditions, you should never judge someone without at least trying to understand what could possibly be going on.
