In recent weeks, a number of exciting events have taken place and are on the horizon, including the Bourbon County Funfest and the upcoming release of the Bourbon County 2024-2025 community art workshop event schedule. On July 25, the Bourbon County Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) hosted their back-to-school Funfest at Bourbon County High School. The event attracted 466 participants and featured 37 community agents, each with booths showcasing their programs and distributing goodies like pencils, books, and candy. At the event, guests had the chance to earn prize tickets that could be redeemed for gifts later that evening. Attendees enjoyed hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks provided by First Baptist Church. Children were also given the opportunity to receive free face painting, and bounce houses, and participate in various games and activities. Previously known as Readifest, the event underwent a name change, which was explained in an internal interview.
“We changed the name from Readifest to Funfest several years ago to make this an event for everyone in the community to attend and enjoy. We want this event to be viewed as a fun time for all of our students and their families to get together before school starts,” said Danita Earlywine, FRC Director for Bourbon Central Elementary School.
“We provided a BookWorm game to help promote literacy in the home as the prize for this event was free books” Mikki Johnson, of CRES shared.
During this event, 130 volunteers helped guide and pull off this successful event, “This event, which took two days to just physically set-up, up and 5 months to plan, could not possibly go as well as it does without the help of our volunteers, and we truly appreciate all of the help that we receive,” stated Lisa Doyle, Director of the BCMS Youth Services Center. “Youth and adults from Central Baptist Church, the girl’s basketball team, the Kiwanis Club, and our Maintenance Crew helped us tremendously with set-up, working at the event, and helping us with clean-up. “Their help is invaluable to FRYSC staff!” Doyle also stated.
“Lots of volunteers helped us in different ways. We love it when our school staff and community partners come together to work as a team,” Nikki Mullins, Director of BCHS YSC, stated. “A special thanks to our custodial staff for all of their helpfulness, as well,” said Lisa Doyle.
After said event vendors who helped with this event were gifted refreshment bags , decorated by the elementary afterschool Derby Club Children “The kids enjoy decorating these gift bags each summer, and the vendors enjoy receiving them,” said Danita Earlywine, FRC Director at BCES. We would like to thank each and every one who helped with this event.
