On September 24th, there was a report of a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama. As a result of this shooting, there were four people shot and killed while seventeen people were wounded. Police have no suspects in custody and are now working hand in hand with the FBI to continue the investigation. The police are taking information from anybody and encouraging anybody to come forward with a reward of $100,000 if the information is deemed useful and helpful. As of right now, over fifty tips have come in on the case.
It is believed that the shooting was a targeted attack and the shooters only planned to kill one person while the others were caught in the crossfire. Police have not notified the public if it was related to gang activity and are not confirming if the attended target was killed. One of the detectives announced that over 100 shell casings were found at the sight of the shooting.
Many people are worried and are even scared to go to work saying “Birmingham has a dark vibe over it. It’s not safe. If you are from the city, you know it’s not safe’’. Many had also said that this all feels like a horror movie. Gabriel Eslami was standing outside a place called “the hush”, a hookah bar, when gunfire broke out, and by the time he was able to react, he couldn’t feel his leg. Gabriel also said when he was shot and couldn’t move, all he could see was bodies all over the sidewalk.
The mayor of Brimingham said that ‘’gun violence is at a epidemic level in Birmingham’’.
While crime rates have gone down everywhere else, they have gone up drastically there. The mayor has focused on supporting the victims’ families and is working on receiving justice for every family.
