In the last month, political unrest has been evident in multiple regions of the world, with each of these regions experiencing their unique problems and challenges along the way but what they all have in common is political unrest caused by neglected and dissatisfied citizens.
The United States has been viewed as greatly divided because of recent political decisions, which have brought the already rocky political status of the nation to a boiling point. Politically, it’s been caused by the recent presidential election which has marked a major shift in the political landscape of the nation. Debates over immigration, healthcare, and the judiciary system are all cornerstones of the political unrest in America.
Meanwhile, across the world in South Korea, a similar yet very different situation has been unfolding. The nation has experienced large waves of political instability caused by President Yoon Suk-yeol’s administration, which has led to nationwide protests and criticism, most of which are caused by two major issues: the martial law he instituted on December 3, 2024, and the issue surrounding North Korea diplomacy. Tensions have escalated with North Korea, which has made many civilians fearful, leading to major questions of the government and its ability to deal with the political conflict surrounding North Korea.
In Latin America, a pattern of unrest has been going on for years. Countries such as Peru and Argentina have seen major protests nationwide, leading to major strain on citizens. Within the Argentinian government, the far-right libertarian president has signed a departure from the past decades of centrist and meaningful government, while Peru has faced change and instability, with the government dealing with protests and political instability.
In the Middle East and Africa, we see it remains a hotspot for political disarray. Rising living costs have made it a hotspot for protest and have triggered unrest across the region. The top nations with this issue have been Tunisia and Lebanon, within Tunisia, the government has seen an increase in authoritarian measures that have caused protests and international criticism. While Lebanon has an ongoing economic crisis, the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, and has left the government in disarray.
Overall across the globe, there have been major changes and disarray that are spanning the globe that are not yet solved.
