On Sunday, February 23rd the Kentucky Women’s basketball team took on LSU for their senior night with seniors Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence, but unfortunately did not beat the opposing team. The game was close in the first half with the Wildcats ahead 38-22, but then LSU outscored the Wildcats 23-6 in the third quarter to take the lead in the game, and after LSU got in their zone, there was no coming back for Kentucky. The fourth quarter was mainly led by Amani Williams, who hit a wide-open 3-pointer with 50 seconds left to put the game away.
This was an intense game, and for the Kentucky Wildcats, Georgia Amoore led Kentucky (21-5, 10-4) with 16 points, but shot just 6 of 22, including 3 of 15 from beyond the arc. She also had a personal run of eight points over the final three minutes, three assists, and two steals. Even though both teams played very well in the first quarter, they did not do as well in the second half with Kentucky missing its first five shots and LSU missing its first six.
After the game, there were many interviews with players and coaches. One interview conducted with Amoore where she discussed how “Every single thing that I’ve been through basketball-wise, it has shaped me into the player I am, and I think I hear it all the time. I’m too short, I’m not quick enough, I’m not this, I’m not that. But it’s like, okay, what I’m then because we’re a ranked team, people scout for me. I don’t know if that’s a nobody then.”
LSU Tigers’ leading scorer Flau’Jae Johnson had 13 points and 13 rebounds. During the second half, the Tigers were still down, so they had to pull through and they successfully did that. The final ending score between the two teams was 65-58, with a Kentucky loss.
