Recently, there was a teen killed in a Lexington crash along with many others left injured.
A head-on collision occurred on Bryan Station Road that involved seven people. One of the victims was a 17-year-old high school baseball player from Frederick Douglass who was unfortunately killed. Matthew Perrine was a part of the Frederick Douglass High School’s varsity baseball team. One of his friends, Noah Carbajal, was in the vehicle as well many others in different cars were also severely injured. Noah’s older brother, Caden, has come out to say “Noah is in a medically induced coma.” They were best friends.
Matthews’s mother, Tiffany is devastated saying “Just going to the car and looking at the car, and oh, the car, and I just collected everything I could collect. The floormats we just bought him for his car, the gear shift thing, he loved it, and I got that.”
Even though everyone is having a tough time with these losses, they still know how to come together as a community and that is just what they did. Matthew’s family decided to open up their house to anyone that knew Matthew and decided to make a memorial spot for him in their front yard. Tiffany shared “many people we didn’t even know just started bringing stuff like flowers and notes and sharing everything good they knew about Matthew.” Eventually, she said they would like to put a more permanent fixture outside at some point, but until then, anyone is welcome to stop by their yard and honor Matthew.
Tiffany is still thinking of ways to help others, with the hope that Matthew’s death will lead to changes being made about the safety of Bryan Station Road. A GoFundMe has also been set up, along with Matthew’s mother wanting to use the money to set up scholarship funds in Matthew’s name.
