What Your Pet Shouldnt Eat on Thanksgiving

There are many foods toxic to pets that could kill them if eaten. These foods, if the animal ingests them, will cause illness and even death.

  • Turkey or ham – Turkey or ham seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and onion can be very harmful to your pet if eaten on anything. However, pets can have seasonings like basil and parsley.
  •  Stuffing and gravy – Stuffing and gravy both often contain seasonings and other ingredients harmful to pets like mushrooms, chives, leeks, and scallions.
  •  Mashed potatoes – Mashed potatoes can be harmful if they have seasonings, if they dont they are safe for pets without diabetes. Potatoes can cause a spike in blood sugar for pets who have diabetes.
  • Cranberry sauce – Cranberry is often used in pet foods, but if large amounts are ingested it can cause an upset stomach.
  • Turkey or ham bones –  No bones about it, that’s not a good idea. Cooked bones can splinter, puncturing the digestive tract. Bones also can become stuck in the esophagus causing your pet to choke.

If your pet eats any of the 5 things listed be sure to monitor them and contact your vet if they become sick.
