Valentines’ Day is fast approaching, and many are scrambling to get some gifts and flowers for their loved ones. However, most people seem to only think of roses as the perfect flower for Valentines’ Day. There are many other flowers though that have wonderful, sentimental meaning and can be picked for a bouquet.

Roses: The flower of love, although slightly outdated, cliche, and expensive.  A symbol of love and passion since ancient Greece and Rome, this flower has become the most popular on Valentines’ Day. There is also a variety of rose colors, each having their own symbolic meaning: red, as previously stated, enduring passion and love; white, purity, humility and innocence; yellow, showing friendship and joy; pink, expressing gratitude, appreciation, and admiration; orange, expressing enthusiasm and desire; lilac and purple roses represent enchantment and love at first sight.

Tulips: Believe it or not, tulips are an excellent choice as well if roses are not your significant other’s favorite. Representing perfect love, tulips are one of the most popular blooms in the world, often conveying comfort and warmth. They are a wonderful pick since they are very classic and affordable too.

Carnations: These ruffled blooms are beautiful flowers, standing for fascination and new love. Carnations come in a variety of colors, and they are very hardy and inexpensive. Their fluffy appearance gives them more popularity, as the petals are softer-looking and airy.

Lilies: These elegant blossoms are perfect for those who have a more classy, sophisticated style. No matter the color, lilies stand for beauty, friendship, devotion, class, and style. They are very easy to find in local markets and make for a very dramatic, elegant bouquet.

Sunflowers: Like the sun, these blooms represent warmth and happiness, as well as loyalty. While you make think these flowers are summer-only, they are actually available all year. Even better, they are affordable too, so you won’t break the bank making them into a bouquet!

Peonies: Peonies are also very popular for their soft, fluffy appearance, and they stand for romance, prosperity, and bashfulness. According to some stories, peonies are even associated with good luck and fortune! So handing your loved ones a bouquet of these could bring them some good luck, and your relationship can gain some good fortune as well!
