The Year of Satisfying

If you have looked on Instagram or Snapchat recently you would have noticed these videos that have been showing up that say they are satisfying. What does it really mean when these things are satisfying to us to either hear or see? Many people watch or listen to these videos to either fall asleep or relax, but what makes it satisfying to experience?

A very popular form of satisfying videos is called ASMR. ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. ASMR ranges from people speaking softly, to people eating and people opening things. People use these videos to calm down from anxiety or just their day. It causes a nerve in their brain to cause a sensation of relaxing and even helps them go to sleep. Don’t get me wrong, this sensation and ASMR doesn’t work on everyone so don’t get disappointed if it doesn’t help you relax. That is why some people may think that these videos are kind of creepy and not for them, but it does help some people that feel the sensation in their brain to help them feel relaxed.

The other satisfying videos are when people cut things in half, play with slime, or it could even be a video of a factory machine making something perfectly. This is satisfying to people because it shows them something that happens perfectly, whether that be cut in half perfectly, covered perfectly or even just have an interesting sound to it. These are sounds that for some reason some people like and it sounds satisfying to them or it looks very satisfying because we don’t usually see perfect every day. So before you get mad at all those satisfying videos you see pop up why don’t you try and watch one and see if it calms you, helps you sleep, or even just satisfies you for that moment in time.
