Captain Marvel Movie Review
March 15, 2019
On March 8, 2019, Marvel Comic fans piled into theaters to see the release of Captain Marvel; the newest movie based off the popular comics. Many fans enjoyed the touching tribute to the late Stan Lee, Marvel Comic’s creator who had passed away this past November. While some argue that newcomer actress Brie Larson’s portrayal of Carol Danvers was not up to their high standards, many others believe that she fit the role perfectly. Captain Marvel is the very first Marvel movie to have a female superhero as the lead protagonist, which many women are excited about; taking their daughters or sisters to watch as the hero took down bad guys and held her own.
The film is set in 1995 and follows Carol Danvers (Larson) as she learns her real purpose and identity as a person. Marvel also fills in some of the plot holes that its preceding movies left unsolved for numerous fans. Another thing Marvel is very gifted at is mixing humor and playfulness with seriousness and heavy topics, such as war. Also, the movies are known for their stellar song choices, Captain Marvel is no exception; featuring hit songs by classic ’90s bands such as Nirvana and No Doubt, with many more artists providing their songs for the blockbuster movie.
Captain Marvel was a success in the box office, topping $455 million the first weekend of release and grossing over $18 billion worldwide so far. The film was a huge success, just like the majority of Marvel’s films, and Brie Larson will be reprising her role as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the newest and possibly final installment of the Avengers franchise that is due to hit theaters in April 2019, just after the new Spider-man sequel comes out. Marvel has big movies coming to us within the next few months, and although Stan Lee is not with us to see them, fans will forever appreciate the stories and characters he created for our entertainment.
Captain Marvel continues to be a box office hit, as well as a fan favorite upon its release; various people believe that the female representation will continue to flourish, and the people cannot contain their excitement for the time when they get to see the hero in action once again.
