Hardee’s Parking Lot Fire

Hardees Parking Lot Fire

Saturday, March 2, 2019, a car caught fire at Hardee’s in Winchester, Kentucky at approximately 11:30 am. The fire was thought to have started because the former owner of the vehicle was trying to remove the converter when the car caught fire. Firefighters don’t know if it was due to a spark coming in contact with the heavy concentration of gas fumes or if it simply came in contact with the fuel itself. The owner of the car escaped with minor burns to his face and hands.

Before he pulled up to the restaurant, he was underneath his car to fix it. He quickly removed himself from underneath the car and unhooked his truck from the trailer, or at least he tried but had not unhooked the chain. He eventually unhooked everything and pulled his truck up to the front of the restaurant. The owner of the trailer and vehicle had stopped at the restaurant to grab some food before taking the car to the scrap yard. While at the restaurant, the car burst into flames. Several people including a former student, Bobby Shane Woodrum, along with his father Bobby Woodrum, ran outside to see what all the commotion was about. The morning manager came outside and saw the situation at hand and called for the fire department. Several other people, such as Diana Woodrum and Pricilla Woodrum, quickly threw their food away to go outside and watch it all unfold before their eyes. When they went outside, they heard the tires on the trailer popping one by one. When the firefighters arrived, there was a huge explosion that no one could explain where it came from off the car. However, it was believed to be the gas tank exploding. The flames were so hot, it even burnt the grass behind the parking lot. While firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, it didn’t stop the flames from destroying a brand new trailer that the man had just bought.
