On August 23, 2018, Bourbon County FFA members competed in the first “Final Drive” at the Kentucky State Fair.  To be eligible to compete in the Final Drive, students have to be a Division winner with their market animal which includes goat’s, pig’s, lamb’s or steer’s.  Bourbon County FFA is proud to announce that nine members competed in this event.  Out of 460 lambs, Landon Kearns, Logan Kearns, Mason Miracle, TJ Yazell, Christopher Hinkle, and Hollie Doyle were all Division winners with their market lambs.  Hollie Doyle won 3rd place overall for Market Lamb and Reserve Grand Champion Kentucky Proud Market Lamb. Out of 260 goats, Freshman Shelby Terrell won 5th place overall market goat, and Reserve Grand Champion Kentucky Proud market goat.  The steer show had 110 animals that competed.  McKaylyn Shelton won 5th place overall market steer. BCMS 8th grader, and new FFA member, Macey Shelton won 4th place overall Market Steer and Grand Champion Kentucky Proud Market Steer. It is a huge honor to be able to compete in this event. Broadbent Arena was full of people watching these kids compete for what they love. These kinds of projects teach the kids not only about livestock production, but also hard work, responsibility, financial literacy, and teamwork. This is what agricultural education is about.
