Our BCHS band in 2020

Alyssa Sanders, Editor

There’s many extracurricular activities at Bourbon County High School, but there’s one that’s put Bourbon County on the map: our band. They’ve had many successes, resulting from the hard work they’ve put in for months. Our band director, Mr. Stone, has dedicated himself to our talented band and made them into what they are today. They continue to work hard to accomplish their goals and to hopefully win the national championship for the third time.

Our band has already made some impressive accomplishments in the past years. In 2018 and 2019 they were named the best band of their size in the nation Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis. Even though there were bands that had up to 600 members while they had about 130 members, they still won. Also because of their impressive skills they’ve been given the opportunity to perform in the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. Our band is very talented and their successes are well deserved.

This year the band has worked on a show called, “The Forces of Nature”. They started learning it this summer and have been perfecting their show ever since. So far they’ve been to multiple competitions and on October 23rd they qualified for the semi finals. Which will be held at our football field this Saturday, October 30th 2021. This week they’ve been counting down the days and working even harder to ensure they do well. Their main competitors are Harrison County, Anderson County, South Laurel County. I asked a student in band, Sidney Manning, why she thought they should win and she responded by saying, “ It’s not really about winning, we just want to make sure the seniors have a good year, and also we want to get back to where we were and do the best we can. Because like Mr. Stone says that’s not our decision.”

Our band has put in a lot of hard work for the past few months. They’ve practiced four days a week for months and continue to push themselves to be the best they can. We are lucky to have such a determined band at BCHS. If you can, come support our band this Saturday at our football field, and watch their wonderful performance at 12:00 am. And as always keep your school spirit up!
