During the week of December 5 through the 11, Bourbon County put on its yearly musical performance. This year’s show was “You’re a Goodman, Charlie Brown.” The production of the musical began as the new school year started.

The production started strong, as high school students stepped in to help with sets, props, painting, choreography, and makeup. Several high school students who volunteered completed set designs and participated in the tech crew, as well as helped with the makeup for the show.

The middle schoolers, however, had practices every day Monday through Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm. As play week was right around the corner, the kids also had practice every Friday and the time depended on how long it took for them to do a full run of the show. The show was directed by Rachel Poe and Charles Baldwin. Mrs. Poe has been a part of Bourbon County’s theater program for years.

The show “You’re a Goodman, Charlie Brown” follows Charlie Brown, the main character from the Peanuts franchise, as he struggles to understand his place and competes to win over the girl he has a crush on. The show also includes other characters from the well-known franchise including Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schroder, and the beloved Snoopy. The characters follow alongside him and grow as people on their own. The show seemed to be a hit with audiences of all ages because of how well-known these characters are. The play was given six shows: three schools continue to keep the arts program running with her dedication.

The students kept up with their busy schedules while remaining in sync with their characters. The show had lots of help this year but that did not take away from the end product and all the effort that the middle schoolers put forth. The middle school was grateful for all the help they received, from costumes to even the high schoolers that tagged along. As 2021 comes to an end, the Bourbon County Middle School can proudly say they ended it with a bang.
