In the United States, there are 31 million people who take the claim of being an entrepreneur, which is about 16% of the US workforce. Everyday, more and more of the youth are coming up with new ideas to start their own businesses. Two of these young entrepreneurs are Thomas Greenlee and Connor McKinzie, who are both seniors here at Bourbon County High School. Their business is G&M Pressure Washing and they’re one of Bourbon County’s newest student-led companies.The determination to start their own business came from their desire to be their own boss; they can have their own schedule and the main reason was to start making money early in preparation for the future. Part of working for yourself is doing everything yourself. For this reason, they each initially invested 500 dollars. The business began in October and took about 2-3 weeks to get their business started. They’re about to hit their four month mark this month.

These winter seasons can be tough for them, but they improvise with the other services including landscaping services as well as auto detailing. Even though the powerwashing, which is their main service, is not in season right now, they can still do it for people that need it. Since this is a new business, it’s just Thomas and Connor doing the work. As they expand in the future and grow even more successful, they’ll begin offering jobs to people to be a part of their team. One of the biggest priorities they have is advertising and promoting their business to the public. They get widespread recognition of their company by using social media, yard signs, and business cards to get their name out. Once they’re out of highschool, they plan to keep expanding the business. Both Thomas and Connor are going to college at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green and they hope to take the business down there so they can work it in their extra time.
