Spoiler alert: This article will be discussing the Netflix show “Sweet Magnolias” and will include spoilers. Please continue with this knowledge at hand. 

On May 19, 2020, the first season of “Sweet Magnolias” was released on Netflix. The show is about three childhood best friends that help each other through life challenges. They live in the small southern town of Serenity, South Carolina.

In the first season, Maddie Townsend is going through a messy divorce with her husband Bill, with whom she has three kids (Tyler, Kyle, and Katie). Her husband cheated on her while they were married. Bill Townsend is a doctor and has an affair with his nurse, Noreen. Maddie ends up having a relationship with her son’s coach, Cal Maddox.

Dana Sue Sullivan is one of Maddie’s best friends. She has one daughter (Annie) with her husband Ronnie, who she kicked out years ago. She is the owner and head chef at a restaurant called Sullivan’s.

The last person in the friend group is Helen Decatur. She is a single lawyer, but at the end of season 1, she seems to be involved with Dana Sue’s co-chef, Erik.

The three women open a spa called the corner spa. At the end of season one, there was a huge cliffhanger that left the show’s fans on the edge of their seats. At prom, there was a party at another character’s house. During this party, there was a fight between a character and Maddie’s son, Tyler. After the fight broke loose, Maddie’s other son, Kyle, tried to intervene. He ends up taking his brother’s car keys and getting into a very bad wreck. The passenger was unidentified, which is why fans have been on the edge of their seats.

Fans also were left confused as to who the parents of Issac, a young cook at Sullivan’s, were. Issac asked Dana Sue if she could be a possibility, however, she left the question unanswered after getting a call about the wreck from Maddie. 

Season 2 was finally released on February 4, 2022. The trailer shows that Noreen had her baby with Maddie’s ex-husband, Bill and that Kyle survived the wreck. It provides a glimpse of hope for the characters, after the rough times they had during the first season.
