Spotify: Valued or Hated?

The Spotify controversy surrounds popular podcaster, Joe Rogan.

The popular music app Spotify has been receiving vigorous amounts of hate for its recent uploads. One of Spotify’s most popular uploads is its podcasts. Podcasts can range from a variety of topics, such as college, sports, or workouts. The creators of podcasts are called podcasters.

Popular podcast creator Joe Rogan speaks out on many topics the public would consider controversial. For example, he often bases his podcasts on fitness, nutrition, science, and space.

Recently, Rogan’s controversial way of talking about these topics has been traveling through the internet at a fast rate. Some agree while others are calling Rogan’s topics “sensitive” and believe that they shouldn’t be talked about so calmly. Following the massive amounts of comments on other forms of social media, Spotify’s CEO, Daniel Ek, has spoken out about the controversy surrounding Rogan. There has been anger towards the app’s CEO because he refuses to let Joe Rogan be canceled over a recent n-word controversy in one of Rogan’s podcasts. The recent controversy surrounding Rogan proves that people should not be allowed to create podcasts nor brainwash their viewers to make them agree with their ideas.

Spotify has been underwater for a while. The app’s user rate has dropped dramatically due to people switching to Apple Music, despite the extra cost for their music. Apple Music is another popular music streaming app that makes its users pay for certain songs. It is considered to be Spotify’s number one rival app, but the public has commonly chosen Spotify over Apple because it uses ads between songs instead of paying for the music.

Even though the controversy has been all over social media, Twitter and TikTok especially, it has appeared to simmer down after a few weeks. Spotify’s podcasts are open to anyone, which can be dangerous depending on the topics and what people are listening to.
