Jennette Mccurdy first started acting in Nickelodeon’s popular show iCarly in 2007 when she was only 15 years old. Jennette was on the show for five years; the show ended in 2012. Jennette then went on to have a spin-off show called Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande. However, the show only had one season and was canceled in 2014 after negative rumors, the tension between the co-stars, and pay disputes. Mccurdy has stated that “My whole childhood and adolescence were very exploited.” Recently, Mccurdy has come out with a book titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died”. She talks about the misery she was in while acting and only continued to do it for her mom who would constantly peer pressure her into doing it because she was their “breadwinner”.

Another subject she brings up is her eating disorder which started when she was only 11 years old. Her mother introduced her to calorie reduction which Jennette used to lose weight. She also talks about her experience with Dan Schneider, who she only refers to as “The Creator”. She recalls an instance where she was forced into wearing a bikini at age 15 on iCarly; she continues and talks about how he made her drink spike coffee and massaged her back. She stated in her book after this interaction “ I want to say something, to tell him to stop, but I’m so scared of offending him”. When Jennette finally left Nickelodeon she revealed in her book that she was offered $300,000 in “hush money” ; she talked about this in her interview with Vanity Fair. This would mean she wouldn’t be allowed to publicly describe her experience or time while working with them. Her mother died on September 20, 2013. Jennette recalls her siblings all trying to wake up their mother by telling her things they thought would make her wake up. After Jennette and her mom were alone, she told her mother she was finally down to 87 pounds, her mother’s dream weight for her.
