The Nope (2022) film, directed by Jordan Peele, director of Us and “Get Out” is about two siblings running a horse ranch in California, who discover something strange and sinister in the skies above, while the owner of an adjacent theme park tries to profit from the mysterious, otherworldly phenomenon. I really enjoy the premise of the movie and combined with the cinematography mixed in, the acting could have made a great movie.

Unfortunately, there are two things that were a little off putting to me. One of the things is the pacing, which was a little slow. The film took a while to pick up speed, spending most of the first 30 minutes on exposition. The other issue with the film is how the animals were represented. For example, the cinematography showcases the scenery effectively, but when we are presented with the horse scene, the horse is shown as unrealistic because a horse would run away, and it would try its best once cornered, to kick much more than it did in the film. The representation of the horse made it seem less real and took me back away from being fully involved in the plot.

When thinking about the acting in the film, the actors that I enjoyed the most were Daniel Kaluuya, who played OJ Haywood; and OJ’s sister, Emerald Haywood, played by Keke Palmer. I enjoyed the way he acted in the movie because he was a little awkward and quiet, but he was able to take charge when presented with a situation. On the other hand, Keke was hyperactive and I related to her character as she acted how I would in this same situation. In conclusion, to me, this shows his character is adaptable and worthwhile in having on your team. Nope is recommended for those who prefer a slower paced movie and can remain invested in the plot.
