Halloween Would Be Nothing Without the Addams Family
October 6, 2022
“To live without you, only that would be torture.
A day alone, only that would be death.”
The all time lovable family with all time desirable looks will always be the Addams Family. Charles Addams, the 1991 grand release of the first Addams Family, caught the eye of millions around the world with its gothic tone and medieval appearance. The film is a traditional must watch movie for the approaching spooky season. The Addams family has been animated and recreated in movies and even TV series such as Wednesday on Netflix. A personal preference is the live action films, mainly because the actors play the characters so well. The characters are so easy to connect with because of their unique and neat personalities.
Wednesday is an American horror and comedy duo by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Tim Burton. It’s a Netflix series, yet to be released, based on the character Wednesday Addams played by “The Babysitter’s” actor Jenna Ortega. The directors seemed to match the actors to fit the picture of Tim Burton’s Addams Family show. Each actor is the spitting image of their character, aside from Wednesday’s physically different characterization. Burton wasn’t trying to make his own version of the original Charles Addams 1900’s trilogy, but simply inspire with his own twists. Raul Julia was Gomez Addams in Charles’ film; Alfred and Miles hired Luis Guzman for his similarity to Burton’s version of Gomez. Burton’s version of Gomez was different from Charles’ because he wanted to avoid incessant comparisons. By using the original cartoons as inspiration for the character designs, Burton’s Wednesday offers a brand-new yet still familiar take on the beloved Addams Family characters that live-action adaptations have yet to depict.
The Addams family has had an impact on many for their admirable and chaotic disposition, so much that their costumes are worn by children and adults around the world. Wednesday Addams is one of the most loved characters by children, her nonchalant attitude and school girl style is an image kids are interested in. With the new Wednesday Addams series dropping this fall on Netflix, it’s a costume that’s sure to be more popular. The original Wednesday actress, Christina Ricci once said: “This is my costume. I’m a homicidal maniac, they look just like everyone else.” That enthusiasm and not to mention the ease to DIY the costume will be cheap and resourceful for parents. Wednesday is known for her dark humor and continuous solemn look. If a parent were looking to channel their child’s inner goth, her outfit is a black dress with a white lace collar and black knee high boots paired with two simple black braids. The Addams Family is a wonderful movie to pile up on the couch with your family and some popcorn and just enjoy the whimsical humor and family love.
