Bad Bunny’s Rise To Fame

Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio otherwise known as Bad Bunny is a 28-year-old singer and songwriter. He was born on March 10, 1984, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. His music style is described as trap music and reggaeton. He was first discovered by DJ Luian on SoundCloud who signed him to the label “Hear This Music” in 2016. In 2018, they parted ways and he signed with Rimas Entertainment. Bad Bunny received his stage name after he shared a picture of himself when he was a child wearing a bunny costume with a grumpy expression on his face, and then created a Twitter account under the name Bad Bunny; the name stuck when he started gaining popularity. His breakthrough was in 2017 when he was featured in the song “Mayores” by Becky G which has over 2 billion views on YouTube. In 2018, he was featured in the song “I Like It” by Cardi B alongside J Balvin; it peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. His song “Mia” was also very popular and featured Drake.
On December 24, 2018, he released his first album called “X 100pre” a Spanish acronym for “Por Siempre ” translated in English to “Forever” through Rimas Entertainment. In early February 2020, he performed at the Super Bowl halftime show alongside Shakira. A few months later he released his album called “YHLQMDLG” an acronym for “Yo hago lo que me de la gana” translated in English to “I do whatever I want”. This album was very successful and it earned him his very first Grammy award for best Latin pop album. His third solo album called “El último tour del mundo ” translated to “The last world tour” was released in late February 2020. This was the first Spanish language album to reach number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. His album “Un verano sin ti” translated to “A summer without you” released in 2022 also reached number 1 on the Billboard Top 200. His success continues as he is currently on tour and is reported to make $250,000 per show.
