We all know the beloved Rubeus Hagrid from the “Harry Potter” films. Coltrane started his career by appearing alongside Hugh Laurie, Stephan Fry, and Emma Thompsom in the sketch series Alfresco (1983-1984). He had won his first British Academy Television Award for Best Actor Nomination. After he had started in theater and comedy he switched to television and film shortly after. He then went on and won three consecutive BAFTA awards. Coltrane got cast for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone back in 2001 as Rubeus Hagrid. He appeared in all eight “Harry Potter Films.” Later on, Coltrane was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that occurs when flexible tissue at the end of the bones wears down. He had been in constant pain. Coltrane had shocked and worried many of his fans back in 2019 due to a picture of him in a wheelchair, unable to walk. Sources had reported that the aging actor had been in “constant pain for years.” He was waiting for a knee replacement surgery after osteoarthritis had destroyed his joints. On October 14, 2022, Coltrane passed away at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, in Larbert, United Kingdom. Just days after his passing, sources revealed the cause of his death. Multiple of the U.K outlets have stated that Coltranes’ cause of death was organ failure. The death certificate stated, “he had type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed with obesity, notes that he had sepsis, a lower respiratory infection, and a heart block.”. Many actresses and actors have gone on to honor and remember him as the funny, talented, and loving guy they co-starred with or spent time with. Emma Watson had equated Coltrane to “the most fun uncle I’ve ever had” and remembered him for his “immense talent”, “brilliance” and compassion. Everyone will miss his beloved character in “Harry Potter”.
