“Little did I know I would be stepping into a nightmare. Full of mystery, mayhem, and murder. I think I’m going to love it here.”

Wednesday, the new Netflix hit show was created by the famous Tim Burton. This series stars Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Christina Ricci, Gwendoline Christie, Victor Dorobantu, Emma Myers, and Joy Sunday. This spooky nightmare-filled series follows the story of Wednesday Addams. The synopsis follows, “While attending Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.” This adaptation comes from the 1964 tv series, “The Addams Family.” The show ran for two seasons but was canceled due to low ratings. The Wednesday series was initially announced in October 2020 as an unnamed Addams Family project under Tim Burton’s production.

After the initial reveal that something was coming, no further announcements were made until August 2021 on Instagram. It was then, Jenna Ortega was cast as Wednesday Addams. An article from DEADLINE regarding the casting was released on August 27, 2022. Thora Birch, Riki Lindhome, Jamie Mchshane, Hunter Doohan, and 10 other cast members were announced. Early in its production, there was a rumor circulating on social media that Christina Ricci would be joining the cast as an unknown character. After this news, fans speculated that she would be cast as Morticia Addams, Wednesday’s mother. A couple of months went by without a word of Ricci’s character. Eventually, the casting director, Florina Fernandes confirmed that Ricci would be portraying a minor character. Filming for this wicked series took place from September 2021 to March 2022. As summer rolled around, the first look was shown at Geekedweek on June 6, 2022. Not much was shown in the first teaser trailer, only Jenna Ortega making her debut as Wednesday. It wasn’t until October that the first trailer was released. The trailer did exceptionally well in views–hitting 18 million views in just a month.

Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 23, 2022. With all good things, come’s backlash. A few fans of the original Addams Family” were hesitant to watch the series due to it being a spin-off. Jenna Ortega, casted as Wednesday Adams, is of Latin descent. So when she was cast for this character, she wanted her to have that culture. The original Gomez Addams was Latino, so fans wanted to see Wednesday include more of their heritage.

After all of the episodes were released, people were demanding another season. Nothing has been confirmed as of now, but Netflix has announced that they are wanting more seasons that will include new stories, new characters, and new twists.
